Thurs/Fri Sept 4th and 5th

Give an example of a heterogeneous mixture. How do you know it is heterogeneous. Is there any way to make the mixture homogenous? Why or why not?
Learning Target
I will learn about factors that change the rate a solute dissolves in a solvent.
Criteria for Success
I will be able to explain some of the factors that can change the rate at which a solute dissolves in a solvent.
Solution
A homogeneous mixture where one substance is dissolved in the other.
Solvent
a liquid, solid, or gas that dissolves another solid, liquid, or gaseous solute
When you dissolve salt in water, water is the solvent.
Solute
A substance dissolved in another substance.
When you dissolve salt in water, salt is the solute.
There are many different factors that can change how fast or slow a solute dissolves in a solvent.
We are going to make some of these mixtures in the lab! Remember to follow all lab safety rules! Do not eat or smell anything, wear your goggles the whole time, listen to my directions!!!
Reflection
Explain one factor that can change the rate at which a solute dissolves in a solvent
